File Transfer

Overview

File transfer is a key feature in Mockitt designed to help team members efficiently manage and share project files. It allows for the flexible adjustment of file locations and access permissions, facilitating collaboration and project management.

With file transfer, you can achieve:

  1. Team Collaboration: Mockitt supports transferring prototype files from a Personal Workspace to a Team Workspace, enabling real-time collaboration and sharing.
  2. Permission Management: Only the Workspace Owner and Super Administrators can set and adjust file transfer permissions, ensuring the security and confidentiality of team files.
  3. Project Management: File transfer is a crucial part of project management. Mockitt offers a simple yet powerful file management system, allowing members to organize, categorize, and archive project files easily.

Please Note:

  1. If transferring out of a Team Workspace, ensure the initiator has the necessary transfer permissions and a valid seat for that file type.
  2. Ensure the destination (Personal or Team Workspace) has not exceeded its file limit.

File Transfer Rights by Membership Type

Different membership types have varying degrees of file transfer permissions.

Setting Team Transfer Permissions

The Workspace Owner can modify file transfer permissions by clicking Workspace Settings in the bottom-left corner of the Workspace, then selecting Permissions from the left sidebar.

Available options:

  1. Owner Only: Only the Workspace Owner can transfer files.
  2. Owner + Super Admins: Allows the Owner and Super Administrators to transfer files.
  3. Owner + Admins: Allows the Owner and all Administrators to transfer files.

Transferring Personal Files to a Team Workspace

You can transfer files from your Personal Workspace to a Team Workspace using the following steps. Ensure you are already a collaborator in the destination workspace.

  1. In your Personal Workspace, select the file you want to transfer, click the More (...) button, and choose Move.

  2. In the popup panel, select the destination Workspace and Team to complete the transfer.

Transfer Failures: You cannot transfer files if:

  1. The destination Team Workspace has expired.
  2. The destination Team Workspace has exceeded its file limit.
  3. You do not have the corresponding Prototype/Whiteboard seat in the destination Team Workspace.

Transferring Team Files to Personal Workspace

Transferring files from a Team Workspace to a Personal Workspace involves different steps depending on your role.

Common Requirement: To transfer a file type (Prototype/Whiteboard), you must hold the corresponding seat in the Team.

1. Workspace Owner

The Workspace Owner can simply select the file in the team folder, click More > Move, and select their Personal Workspace.

2. Super Administrators / Administrators

Contact the Workspace Owner to go to Workspace Settings > Permissions and set the File Transfer Permission to Owner + Super Admins or Owner + Admins. Once enabled, Super Admins/Admins can perform the transfer.

3. Regular Members

A regular member needs to:

  1. Ask the Workspace Owner to promote them to Super Admin or Admin.
  2. Ensure the File Transfer Permission is set to allow that role.
  3. Perform the transfer once permissions are granted.

Transferring Between Team Workspaces

To transfer files between two Team Workspaces, your account must have the appropriate seat type in both the source and destination workspaces for the file type you wish to transfer.

Moving Files to Another Account

To transfer a file from Account A to Account B, both accounts must be members of the same Team Workspace (Free, Team, or Enterprise plan with 2+ seats).

Process:

  1. Account A moves the file from their Personal Workspace to the Team Workspace.
  2. Account B (must have Admin permissions) moves the file from the Team Workspace to their own Personal Workspace.

Transfer Failures:

  1. Account A and B are not in the same Team Workspace.
  2. Account B does not have Admin/Super Admin permissions (see "Regular Members" section above).

Batch Move Files

Select multiple files in the Workspace, then click the Move button in the top right corner to transfer them in bulk.

Permissions Check:

  1. Single Team: Ensure you are an Admin/Super Admin.
  2. Multiple Teams: The Workspace Owner must set permissions for each team individually. Roles in the Workspace do not automatically grant permissions within specific sub-teams unless configured.

FAQ

1. Why can't I move files even though I am an Admin?

First, verify that the Owner has set the File Transfer Permission in Workspace Settings > Permissions to Owner + Admins.

Secondly, if there are multiple Teams within the Workspace, ensure you have Admin rights specifically for the Team where the files reside.

2. How do I transfer another member's file to my Personal Workspace?

Refer to the section "Moving Files to Another Account". Ensure both users are in the same Team and you have the necessary Admin permissions to move files out of the Team.

3. Why don't I see my joined Team when trying to move a personal file?

Check if the Team Workspace has expired. You cannot transfer files to an expired workspace.

4. Why do I get a "File Limit Exceeded" error?

Check if the destination Team is a Free Team. Free Teams are limited to editing 3 projects.
